REM Target Match for Picasso, Muse iQ, SoundLens Synergy iQ, Muse, or SoundLens Synergy Products

REM Target Match administers automatic real ear measurements by integrating Inspire and Noah 4.5.1 or higher select compliant IMC2 (Inter Module Communication 2) and non-IMC2 (Verifit) API REM equipment to measure and fit hearing aids. A tool guides you through the entire process which includes setting up and preparing the Real Ear system for testing, calibrating the probe tube, measuring Real-Ear Unaided Gain (REUG), if applicable, measuring Real-Ear Aided Response (REAR), and matching targets. REM Target Match automatically measures and matches at the Moderate input level selected via Target Preferences with the option to also measure at the Soft and Loud input levels selected.

Using VerifitUsing Verifit

The Verifit and Verifit2 are network tools that can be used with either Noah or PatientBase. In order for REM Target Match to identify the availability of these tools, Inspire must first scan your network for Verifits via REM Target Match Preferences.

There are only three steps in the measurement process when using a Verifit (Setup, Aided, and Finish), with the possibility of four (Calibration). Real-Ear Unaided Gain (REUG) is always bypassed. These tools use targets from select fitting formulas and specific stimulus' so these options must be selected before executing the setup. Verifits are not calibrated via Inspire so if the tool has been calibrated, Inspire bypasses this step. If it has not been calibrated, this step is included but is calibrated via the tool. Verifits also support different input levels so if the Soft and/or Loud levels selected via Target Preferences are not supported, Inspire will choose the level closest to one it supports. Only the Verifit2 measures both ears simultaneously; the Verifit measures the left aid first, then the right.

  1. Connect and select the desired hearing aid(s) to measure via Get Started.
  2. Click on the Read Device Settings or Load a Previous Session radio button and then click Start.

  3. Click REM Target Match and a pop-up window displays.
Note:  This button is only enabled during a live fitting. REM Target Match is available on all Fitting and Advanced Tools screens with a graphical view except Audiometer, Hearing Aid Test, and Verify Comfort.
Note:  Regardless of the graphical view currently selected, the fitting graph automatically changes to Real Ear Response output and Input Type: Speech and must be changed back to the previous selections, if different, once REM Target Match is closed.
Note:  Inspire automatically scans for Real Ear systems installed on your computer. If Enable Network Scan for Verifits is checked via REM Target Match Preferences, a Scan button displays.
Note:  The hearing aid(s) is automatically muted until the Real-Ear Aided Response (REAR) measurement begins.
  4. Inspire automatically defaults to a binaural Select Binaural view if applicable. To adjust only the right or left hearing aid, click Select Right Only or Select Left Only.

Note:  If fitting CROS/BiCROS devices, only the receiver aid can be adjusted, therefore, the side cannot be selected.
  5. Select the Real Ear system to use from the drop down list if applicable.
Note:  If only one Real Ear system is installed, it automatically displays. If more than one is installed, Inspire remembers the Real Ear system selected and automatically defaults to that system. Verifit tools are based on the Device Name in REM Target Match Preferences. If the Device Name is blank, the 'Model (Serial Number)' of the Verifit displays in the list.
Note:  If using a Verifit, Enable Network Scan for Verifits must be checked via REM Target Match Preferences. Only the Verifits powered on with VerifitLINK enabled display in the list. Click Scan to refresh the list of Verifits if necessary.
  6. For Verifit, select the Verifit Target fitting formula to use from the drop down list if applicable.
Note:  If the fitting formula selected in Inspire matches a Verifit target, it automatically defaults. If there's no match, 'NAL-NL2' defaults.
  7. For Verifit, select the Stimulus to use from the drop down list if applicable.
  8. Click Launch to prepare the system for testing. Once the system is ready, a 'green' dot display.
Note:  If REM Target Match data already exists in one or both devices, a message displays. If the data is overwritten but 'Cancel' is selected any time during the measurement, the previous data is automatically restored.
  9. Click Next or the blue dot to proceed to tube calibration, if applicable.
Note:  If the Verifit has been calibrated, this step is bypassed. Continue at step 16.
Tip:  Click Previous or the blue dot to go back to a previous screen. Click Cancel at any time to cancel REM Target Match.
  10. For all tools except Verifit, place the probe tube on top of the reference microphone. Hold the reference microphone approximately 0.5 meters from the speaker. For Verifit, perform the calibration manually on the console.
  11. Click Start to either calibrate the probe tube or verify the Verifit has been calibrated. For all tools except Verifit, once complete, verify the curves are correct.
Note:  If the curves are incorrect or the calibration was not verified, click Start to re-run the measurement or retry the verification.
Note:  No curves display for the Verifit.
  12. Click Next to proceed to Real-Ear Unaided Gain.
Note:  A predicted unaided curve displays on the graph(s). If Previous was selected from the 'Aided' screen, the Real-Ear Unaided Gain (REUG) data displays.
Note:  The Verifit does not measure Real-Ear Unaided Gain. Continue at step 16.
  13. Seat the patient in front of the loud speaker, approximately 1 meter away. Carefully place the probe tube in the patient's ear. Instruct the patient to remain still and quiet during the measurement.
  14. Click Start to measure the unaided gain in both ears simultaneously, if applicable. Once complete, the Real-Ear Unaided Gain curve displays.
  15. Click Next to proceed to Real-Ear Aided Response.
Note:  The target curves selected displays on the graph(s).
  16. Click Max Sound Level and select the maximum sound level in which the Real Ear system can measure if applicable.
Note:  Inspire remembers the Max Sound Level selected and automatically defaults to that level. Point to Max Sound Level and the level selected displays in a tool tip.
  17. Click Input Levels and select the input level(s) to measure if applicable.
Note:  The Moderate input level is required, therefore, it cannot be unchecked. If target level None is selected for Moderate via Target Preferences, '65 dB SPL' displays. If target level None is selected for Soft and/or Loud, the checkbox(es) is hidden. Some tools support different input levels so if the Soft and/or Loud levels selected via Target Preferences are not supported, Inspire will choose the level closest to one it supports. Inspire remembers the checked or unchecked state of the Input Levels and automatically defaults those states. Point to Input Levels and the level(s) selected displays in a tool tip.
  18. Carefully insert the hearing aid into the patient's ear without moving the probe tube. Instruct the patient to remain still and quiet during the measurement.
  19. Click Start to measure the aided response in both ears simultaneously, if applicable. The Measured Pre-Adjustment and Post-Adjustment curves for the Input Levels selected displays on the graph as they are measured, from softest to loudest. For Verifit, a shaded speech region also displays. Once complete, the Measured Post-Adjustment curves are matched to the targets.
Note:  The hearing aid(s) is automatically unmuted during the measurement. Once complete, the aid(s) is automatically muted.
  20. Click Next to proceed to the last step.
Note:  The hearing aid(s) is automatically unmuted.
  21. Click OK to apply the adjustments and close REM Target Match.
Note:  If fitting formula DSL v5 was selected, see DSL v5 Patient Preferences for more information.
Tip:  To reverse the measurements, select 'REM Target Match' in the list of undo actions. If reversed, the vertical axis on the fitting graph displays 'Predicted Real Ear (dB SPL)'. If previous REM Target Match data was overwritten, it's included in the undo, therefore, those measurements are restored. REM Target Match data can also be cleared via the Tools menu.
Note:  Once REM Target Match is closed, the hearing aid(s) remains unmuted unless it was muted prior to accessing the tool. If the adjustments were applied, the vertical axis on the fitting graph displays 'Measurement-Based Real Ear (dB SPL)' and if Auto Experience Manager was enabled, Inspire automatically disables it and sets the Experience Level to the default selected in Target Preferences. Graphs showing the Real-Ear Aided Response (REAR) measured curves matched to the targets for the inputs selected can be printed on the Fitting Report during the current session only. If, during the current session, the REM Target Match data is cleared or the acoustic options are manually changed, or once the fitting session is closed, the graphs can no longer be printed. Real Ear measurements are saved to either Noah or PatientBase (Verifit only) if the fitting session is saved.
