Target Preferences

Target Preferences identifies default target levels, fitting formulas, best fit, etc.

  1. Click Preferences from the Menu Bar.
  2. Click Target.
  3. Enter or edit target settingstarget settings.
    Field Name Description Details
Soft Selects the default soft target level. The levels available are None, 40, 45, 50, and 55. The default value is 50 dB SPL. If None is selected, the soft target and response curves will not display.
Moderate Selects the default moderate target level. The levels available are None, 60, 65, and 70. The default value is 65 dB SPL. If None is selected, the moderate target and response curves will not display.
Loud Selects the default loud target level. The levels available are None, 75, 80, 85, 90, and 95. The default value is 80 dB SPL. If None is selected, the loud target and response curves will not display.
Target Input Stimulus Selects the desired input stimulus for the fitting formula target calculation. The options available are Speech and Sinusoidal. The default is Speech.
Binaural Correction Selects the desired target correction value used in binaural fittings to compensate for the binaural summation effect obtained when fitting both ears. The fitting formula target for each ear will be reduced by the dB value selected. The options available are 0, 3, and 5 dB. The default value is 3 dB.
Air-bone Gap Correction Selects the desired target correction value to be used when the audiogram indicates an air-bone gap, or a difference between the thresholds obtained by air conduction and bone conduction. The fitting formula target values will be increased by the percentage of the air-bone gap selected. The options available are 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100%. The default air-bone gap correction is 25%.

    Fitting Formulas

Non-Linear Selects the non-linear fitting formulas that will be available in the drop down list from any Fitting screen. The non-linear fitting formulas available are e-STAT, NAL-NL2, NAL-NL1, and DSL v5. By default, all fitting formulas are selected.
DSL Defaults (Button) Identifies the default settings exclusively for the DSL v5 fitting formula. See DSL Defaults for more information.
Linear Selects the linear fitting formulas that will be available in the drop down list from most Fitting and Advanced Tools screens. The linear fitting formulas available are NAL-R, Berger, and WFA. By default, only NAL-R is selected.
Select Default Formula Selects the default fitting formula for new hearing aids or when simulating hearing aids. The fitting formulas available are based on the non-linear and linear fitting formulas selected. The default fitting formula is e-STAT.

    Experience Level

Apply default at Best Fit and Target Match Denotes whether or not to apply an automatic gain offset within the fitting. By default, this gain offset is automatically applied.
Experience Level Selects the default gain offset to apply within the fitting. This field is only enabled if Apply default at Best Fit and Target Match is checked. The options available are Novice (1), Familiar (2), Experienced (3), and Transition (T). The default level is Experienced (3).
Show Auto Experience Manager final settings when the feature is enabled Denotes whether or not to display the Auto Experience Manager's final gain settings on the fitting graph when this feature is enabled in the hearing aid connected or simulated. If selected, which is checked by default, the Auto Experience Manager's final gain settings will display on the fitting graph represented as dotted lines. If not selected, the fitting formula's targets will display on the fitting graph represented as thin lines.

    Best Fit Options

Perform on fitting formula change Denotes whether or not to perform a Best Fit every time a different fitting formula is selected. The default is to perform a Best Fit whenever the fitting formula is changed.
  4. Click DSL Defaults.
  5. Enter or edit DSL v5 optionsDSL v5 options.
    Field Name Description Details
Audiometry Selects the default transducer type on the Fitting Formula Options screen. The transducers available are Insert Headphone, Insert Earmold, TDH Headphone, Loudspeaker 0°, Loudspeaker 45°, Loudspeaker 90°, and Real Ear SPL. The default Audiometry type is Insert Headphone.
ABR Denotes whether or not reinterpretation of air-conduction thresholds as ABR thresholds is allowed. This field is only available if the selected transducer is one of the ABR-compatible choices of Insert Headphone or Insert Earmold.
nHL/eHL Indicates if the ABR units are nHL or eHL. nHL is the typical ABR reference with units of dB nHL (normalized hearing level), to which Inspire will apply a frequency-specific conversion to obtain the dB HL equivalent and eHL is the already-converted ABR threshold with units of dB eHL (estimated hearing level), which already corresponds to the dB HL equivalent.
Apply Changes Binaurally Denotes whether or not the ‘nHL to eHL conversion’ values should be changed for both sides if altered. If selected, any changes made to one side will automatically populate to the other side.
nHL to eHL Conversion Identifies the default ‘nHL to eHL conversion’ values used within the Fitting Formula Options screen. Values must be between -30 and 60. These fields are only available if ABR and nHL are selected.
