Feedback Canceller for Honor, Pride, Halo, Z Series, 3 Series, Pride IIC, Xino, Wi Series, Ignite, X Series, S Series iQ, S Series, and E Series Products

Feedback Canceller prevents feedback in a wide variety of environments by setting the desired adjustment control (Off, Static, or Adaptive) per memory. In addition, the Adaptive sensitivity (high or low) per memory can be selected in specific products to reduce the Output Phase Modulation speed.

Maximum Stable Gain (MSG) data including the Added Stable Gain (ASG) can be viewed per memory for the hearing aid(s). The graph displays the range of stable gain in each channel and at what frequencies the gain may be limited. Added Stable Gain (ASG) is a measurement of the feedback canceller performance and reflects the additional gain available when the Feedback Canceller is initialized. The larger the number, the less chance there is for potential feedback.

Feedback Canceller should be initialized first before setting individual memories and viewing Maximum Stable Gain. Static cannot be selected until a successful initialization has occurred during the current fitting. Once a successful initialization is complete, the adjustment control setting automatically defaults based on the memory selected. Telecoil and Autocoil are automatically set to Off and disabled unless the microphone is enabled or Enable M/T is checked via Memories, Music is automatically set to Adaptive, Low Sensitivity in Honor, Pride, and Pride IIC products and Static in all other products, and all other memories are automatically set to Adaptive.

  1. Connect and select the desired hearing aid(s) to adjust via Get Started.

Note:  The hearing aid(s) must be in the patient's ear(s) and the patient should remain quiet during the measurement.
  2. Click on the Read Device Settings or Load a Previous Session radio button and then click .

  3. Click Feedback Canceller.

Tip:  Click Tools from the Menu Bar and click Feedback Canceller to access. Feedback Canceller initializations can also be run during Auto Path.
  4. Click Begin to start the initialization measurement and an animated icon appears indicating the presence of a brief, complex sound in the patient's ear.

Note:  This button is only enabled during a live fitting. If a good static filter was obtained through the initialization, the initialization status Successful: Gain Margin Measured and , , or icon displays. If the initialization was unsuccessful, the status Completed: No Feedback Measured and an alert Alert displays. Point to Alert and suggestions on how to obtain a successful initialization displays in a tool tip.

Tip:  The Begin button changes to Cancel during the initialization process. Click Cancel to cancel the initialization.
  5. Inspire automatically defaults to a binaural Select Binaural view if applicable. To adjust only the right or left hearing aid, click Select Right Only or Select Left Only.

Note:  If fitting CROS/BiCROS devices, only the receiver aid can be adjusted, therefore, the side cannot be selected.
  6. Click on the specific memory to view the adjustment control setting assigned.

  7. Select the desired adjustment control setting for the right hearing aid only, both hearing aids, or the left hearing aid only from the drop down list.

Note:  Adaptive, High Sensitivity and Adaptive, Low Sensitivity are only available for Honor, Pride, Pride IIC, Halo, Z Series, 3 Series wireless BTE 13 and wired power plus BTE 13 products, and Xino wireless RIC 312 products. Static is recommended for patients who have specific lifestyle environments where an adaptive feedback cancellation system is not desired such as healthcare workers and musicians who are exposed to high frequency, repetitive sounds which may be interpreted as feedback. The Static setting would not attempt to cancel these sounds automatically. Static is not available if the memory's directionality setting selected via Environment Manager or Noise Control is dynamic or adaptive. Click Information for more information regarding these adjustment control settings.

Tip:  To adjust the feedback sensitivity for S Series iQ, S Series, and E Series products, click on the words Feedback Canceller and a pop-up window displays. Click on the red, gray, or blue radio button representing the desired sensitivity for the right hearing aid only, both hearing aids, or the left hearing aid only.
  8. If the memory currently selected is dynamic or adaptive, click or to view the memory's directional or omni Maximum Stable Gain data.

Note:  Maximum Stable Gain data automatically displays if available. Maximum Stable Gain references 2cc Coupler Gain, which may differ from the graphical view currently selected. The graph displays a single value for the Peak Added Stable Gain (in dB), Maximum Stable Gain per channel, as well as bars representing the available gain margin on a per channel basis. The blue or red bars represent the amount of gain margin for each of the channels and the gold bars (when present) represent the channel specific amount of gain with potential feedback.

Note:  This feature is only available if the hearing aid connected supports a directional system. If there is feedback potential in any of the memories, an alert displays to the right of Fitting on the Left Navigation Menu and an alert displays on the Auto Gain Adjust button. Point to and a list of memories with potential feedback displays in a tool tip.
  9. Click Auto Gain Adjust to perform an automatic gain adjustment and a pop-up window displays if more than one memory has potential feedback.

Note:  The memories that have potential feedback are automatically checked. If only one memory has potential feedback, the pop-up window does not display and the auto gain adjustment is automatically applied.
  10. Uncheck any memories to maintain the current settings and click Apply.

Tip:  Click X in the upper right hand corner to cancel the auto gain adjustment.

Tip:  To reverse any auto gain adjustments, select 'Gain Decrease' in the list of undo actions.
