Acoustic Options

Acoustic Options selects or changes the connector type, tube size, earpiece, earbud type, and/or vent size in standard and custom hearing aids and replaces the receiver matrix in RIC hearing aids. The connector type and tube size can only be changed in BTE hearing aids and the receiver type (stock or custom AP) and matrix can only be changed in RIC hearing aids. If the receiver matrix is changed, all device settings such as memories, feature settings, fitting formula, etc. are automatically preserved. Feedback Canceller, Real Ear Measurement, and/or Self Check initializations are reset as a result of any acoustic changes, therefore, it is recommended you run these after the process is complete.

When live fitting a Honor or Pride RIC hearing aid with a SnapFit Smart receiver cable attached, Inspire automatically detects and defaults the receiver type and matrix, therefore, these options cannot be changed. If the receiver type and/or matrix stored in the hearing aid is different from the SnapFit Smart cable attached, this screen automatically displays to update the receiver matrix.

If live fitting or simulating Honor or Pride RICs, or simulating Pride BTEs, the acoustic options default based on the receiver type and/or matrix selected (RICs) and the patient's audiogram. If the air conduction threshold at 250 and 500 are less than 30 dB and 1000 Hz is less than 60 dB, a stock receiver or thin tube connector with an open earbud defaults. If the air conduction threshold at either 250 or 500 is greater than 30 dB but less than 50 dB and 1000 Hz is less than 60 dB, a stock receiver or thin tube connector with an occluded earbud defaults. If the air conduction threshold at either 250 or 500 Hz is greater than 50 dB or 1000 Hz is greater than 60 dB, a custom AP receiver or earhook with an earmold defaults. Asterisks represent recommended options.

The initial vent size, which is classified as either No Vent/Occluded, Open, Small, Medium, or Large, that defaults is based on the hearing aid connected. All Honor and Pride products default based on the air conduction threshold at 500 or 1000 Hz. All other custom hearing aids default based on the actual vent size and BTEs with a standard earhook or thin tube default based on the patient’s audiogram. All other RICs with a custom AP receiver default Occluded and RICs with a stock receiver default Open if the air conduction threshold at 500 Hz is less than 45 dB, otherwise Large. However, in a binaural fitting, if the air conduction threshold difference between ear sides at 500 Hz is greater than 15 dB, one device will default Open and the other will default Large. If the threshold difference is less than 15 dB, both devices will default Large. If the vent size is changed during a fitting, the revised venting displays the next time the hearing aid is connected. Whenever fitting in a screen with a graphical view (e.g., QuickFit, Fine Tuning, Memories, etc.), details regarding the hearing aid's current acoustic configuration displays in a tool tip by pointing to Acoustic Options, Acoustic Options or .

  1. Connect and select the desired hearing aid(s) to adjust via Get Started.

  2. Click on the Read Device Settings or Load a Previous Session radio button and then click .

  3. Click Acoustic Options and a pop-up window displays.

Note:  Acoustic Options is available on all Fitting and Advanced Tools screens with a graphical view except Speech Mapping. However, this screen cannot be accessed from Audiometer, Hearing Aid Test, or Verify Comfort.

Tip:  For Xino Classic, Zōn, and Destiny products, clickAcoustic Options or . If two hearing aids of the same style and/or acoustic options are connected, pop-up windows display for both aids. If changes are made to one ear side, the opposite side is automatically changed to the same settings.
  4. Inspire automatically defaults to a binaural Select Binaural or Select Binaural view if applicable. To adjust only the right or left hearing aid, click Select Right Only or Select Right Only, or Select Left Only or Select Left Only.

Note:  If fitting CROS/BiCROS devices, only the receiver aid can be adjusted, therefore, the side cannot be selected.
  5. Select the acoustic options.

Note:  If viewing binaurally, both hearing aids will be changed. However, if an option is only supported in one ear side, the opposite ear side will not be changed. For Xino Classic, Zōn, and Destiny products, the field names listed below will be different.

    * These fields are disabled if simulating or a SnapFit Smart cable is attached. If a SnapFit Smart receiver cable is disconnected during a live fitting, the receiver type and matrix fields will become enabled. If a SnapFit Smart cable is reattached but the receiver type and/or matrix stored in the hearing aid is different from the SnapFit Smart cable attached, a message to update the receiver matrix displays.
** To change the receiver type or matrix for Xino Classic, Zōn, and Destiny products, click  Change Receiver. This button is only available in a live fitting for RIC hearing aids. See Change Receiver Matrix for more information.
    Field Name Description Details
Receiver Type* Selects the receiver type. This feature is only available for RICs and is not available for Xino Classic, Zōn, and Destiny products**.
Receiver Matrix* Selects the receiver matrix. This feature is only available for RICs and is not available for Xino Classic, Zōn, and Destiny products**.
Connector Selects the connector type. This feature is only available for BTEs. The connectors available are based on the hearing aid connected or simulated.
Tube Size Selects the tube size. This feature is only available for BTEs. The sizes available are based on the connector selected.
Earpiece Selects the earpiece type. This feature is only available for select standard products. The types available are based on the hearing aid connected or simulated. An image of the type selected displays.
Earbud Type Selects the earbud type. For select standard products, this feature is only available if earpiece type Earbud is selected. An image of the type selected displays.
Vent Size Selects the vent size. For select standard products, this feature is only available if earpiece type RIC Earmold or Thin Tube Earmold is selected. The sizes available are based on the hearing aid connected or simulated. Vent sizes are classified as either No Vent/Occluded, Open, Small, Medium, or Large.
  6. If the receiver matrix was changed in step 5, a message to update the receiver matrix displays. Remove the hearing aid(s) from the patient's ear(s).

Note:  For select products, the microphone cover must be released first prior to detaching the old receiver. Once the new receiver is attached, replace the microphone cover.
  7. Click Update (if changing the receiver matrix) or OK and a message that Feedback Canceller, Real Ear Measurement, and/or Self Check initializations will be reset if applicable.

Note:  Do not disconnect the hearing aid(s) from the computer during the change receiver process. If a different receiver matrix was selected, the hearing aid(s) is automatically muted. If a different receiver matrix was not selected, the hearing aid(s) is not automatically muted unless muted previously.

Tip:  Click Cancel to cancel the change(s).

Tip:  For Xino Classic, Zōn, and Destiny products, click X in the upper right hand corner to save the change(s) and close the pop-up window.
  8. Click OK to save the change(s).

Note:  If the matrix was changed in the receiver aid in a CROS/BiCROS fitting, the transmitter will automatically be updated once the change receiver process is complete in the receiver aid.
