Best Fit/Target Match

The Best Fit/Target Match algorithm optimally adjusts various hearing device parameters to the recommended gain and feature settings. When selecting the Best Fit option, the device's gain/frequency response settings are changed to best approximate the targets for the selected fitting formula for inputs of 50, 65, and 80 dB SPL or the Music fitting formula. The Best Fit option also sets various feature settings (e.g., noise control, indicator presentation levels, select accessory settings, etc.) to the recommended default settings. The Target Match option functions similarly; however, it only adjusts the device's gain/frequency response settings to best approximate targets for either the selected or the Music fitting formula. Still, it does not change the settings of additional features. Best Fit is typically recommended during initial fittings or if starting a fitting over. Target Match is recommended during follow-up fittings to reset only the gain/frequency response of the device. Best Fit and Target Match can be applied to a single or all programs.

Automatic Best Fit/Target MatchAutomatic Best Fit/Target Match

There are several situations in which a Best Fit or Target Match will be executed automatically during a fitting session. If the fitting formula is changed to any formula except DSL v5, a Best Fit will be executed automatically if Perform Best Fit on fitting formula change is checked via Target Preferences. Still, a Target Match will be executed if this feature is unchecked. If the fitting formula is changed to DSL v5, a Best Fit will be executed automatically regardless if Perform Best Fit on fitting formula change is checked or unchecked. These automatic processes will not change all current user control, program, and/or T2 settings. In addition, if a program is changed to a different program or a Disabled program is enabled, a Best Fit for that program will be executed automatically. However, if the audiogram is changed for an existing patient, the fitting targets will be updated, but a Best Fit will not be executed automatically.

For Omega AI and Edge AI devices, a target match will be automatically applied to audio streaming responses whenever Best Fit Current Program or Target Match Current Program is applied to *Personal if Automatically target match streamed responses when Best Fit/Target Match Current Program is selected is checked via Target Preferences.

Maximum OutputMaximum Output

Maximum output settings will be reset to the recommended values every time a Best Fit or Target Match occurs.

Reserve GainReserve Gain

For products with volume control adjustment capabilities, if Modify Reserve Gain Without Prompting is checked via General Preferences, Best Fit will automatically modify the reserve gain without prompting when necessary. If this feature is unchecked, a prompt will appear if the reserve gain will be modified to best match the fitting formula target.

Feedback CancellerFeedback Canceller

If potential feedback exists in any program's mid frequencies and/or Maximum Stable Gain data exists and the programmed gain exceeds MSG, a Best Fit will automatically apply mid-frequency management and/or adjust the gain to prevent feedback if Apply Auto Adjust to eliminate feedback is checked via General Preferences. In addition, whenever the fitting formula is changed, these adjustments will be automatically applied if this preference is checked and Perform Best Fit on fitting formula change is checked via Target Preferences.

  1. Connect and select the desired hearing aid(s) to fit via Connect.
  2. Click Connect.
Note:  The Acoustics screen displays first if the acoustic options were not set previously.
  3. Click on the specific program to fit if applicable.
Note:  Custom programs created in the My Starkey mobile application cannot be adjusted.
  4. Pro Fit automatically defaults to a binaural fit if applicable. To fit only the right or left hearing aid, click Select Right Only or Select Left Only.
Note:  If fitting wireless products binaurally but viewing monaurally, some settings (e.g., motion-based optimization, indicator lights, etc.) are automatically applied to the opposite ear side because the settings must match between devices. If fitting CROS/BiCROS devices, only the receiver aid can be fit; therefore, the side cannot be selected.
  5. Click Best Fit, and a pop-up window will appear.
Note:  Best Fit is available on all Fitting screens with a graphical view except Hearing Aid Test.
  6. Click Best Fit Current Program, Best Fit All Programs, Target Match Current Program, or Target Match All Programs.
Note:  If the current program selected is linked to other programs, Best Fit Current Program and Target Match Current Program are disabled. If the current program selected is Disabled, all options are disabled. If Best Fit All Programs or Target Match All Programs is selected, custom programs are not adjusted.
