Compression for Advance 26 and Advance 26 Micro Products

Compression adjusts threshold kneepoints per memory for all Channels simultaneously while automatically adjusting the compression ratio. Compression is a decrease in gain as the input sound gets louder and threshold kneepoint is the input level where compression begins to reduce gain. Compression ratio is the degree to which loud sounds are reduced. For example, a 3:1 compression ratio indicates that for every 3 dB change in input there is a 1 dB change in output. The compression ratio can be viewed and adjusted indirectly via Fine Tuning.

The threshold kneepoint options available are Soft Speech and Moderate Speech. If Soft Speech (50 dB SPL) is selected, which is the default, all channel kneepoints remain static. If Moderate Speech (65 dB SPL) is selected, all channel kneepoints are increased by 15 dB. Adjustments can be made via up and down arrows or radio buttons. The current compression thresholds per ear side for individual channels can be displayed.

  1. Connect and select the desired hearing aid(s) to adjust compression via Get Started.

  2. Click Quick Connect or Session Connect.

  3. Click Fitting from the Left Navigation Menu.

  4. Click Compression.

Note:  If Default Performance Values Region Open is selected via General Preferences, the numerical values display. If not selected, the numerical values are hidden.
  5. Click Click to view gain and output values to display the numerical values for compression threshold kneepoints for all channels.

Note:  For products where channels are grouped together, the average numerical compression threshold kneepoint values per frequency range displays.

Tip:  Click Click to view gain and output values to hide the numerical values.
  6. Click on the specific memory to adjust if applicable or click to adjust all memories simultaneously.

  7. Inspire automatically defaults to a binaural Select Binaural view if applicable. To adjust only the right or left hearing aid, click Select Right Only or Select Left Only.

  8. Click the up or down arrow keys to increase or decrease the threshold kneepoints per ear side or binaurally or click on the red, gray, or blue radio button representing the desired thresholds for the right hearing aid only, both hearing aids, or the left hearing aid only.

Note:  The threshold kneepoint options available are Soft Speech and Moderate Speech. The default is Soft Speech. Selecting Moderate Speech or increasing the threshold kneepoint manually increases all channel kneepoints by 15 dB.

Tip:  Soft and loud gain adjustments can be made graphically by dragging and dropping points on the frequency response curve. These adjustments do not affect the threshold kneepoints.
  9. Click Fine Tuning to indirectly adjust the compression ratio for an individual channel, groups of channels, or all channels if desired.
