User Controls for Honor, Pride, and Pride IIC Products

User Controls configure patient controls for volume control, memory, tinnitus, balance control, mute, autophone memories, and T² remote control, depending upon whether or not the hearing aid contains a physical switch, syncs binaural wireless hearing aids to communicate with each other, controls the amount of VC reserve gain or Tinnitus reserve output available, or enables/disables Self Learning. The hearing aid's physical user control (e.g., rocker switch, push button, etc.) determines the configuration options available. Wireless hearing aids can be synced together and if a Best Fit is performed on both devices, all ear to ear features are automatically enabled. If an adjustment made during a binaural fitting results in a hearing aid configuration that no longer supports an enabled ear to ear feature (e.g., volume control), that feature will be disabled automatically.

The hearing aids are configured by dragging the desired user control button (e.g., Volume, Memory, etc.) and dropping it on the desired ear side function (e.g., Short Press, Push & Hold, etc.). If the user control offers specific functions (e.g., Right Raise/Left Lower, Sprinkler Decrease, etc.), a pop-up window displays to select the desired option. When configuring user controls for volume and/or tinnitus, the options Right Raise/Left Lower, Up/Down, and Sprinkler Decrease are always available, however, Left Raise/Right Lower, Down/Up, and/or Sprinkler Increase are only available if the options are selected via General Preferences. If fitting wireless hearing aids binaurally and one hearing aid contains a push button and the other hearing aid contains a rocker switch, Right Raise/Left Lower and Left Raise/Right Lower are not available for the push button.

Wireless communication allows the control on each hearing device to act as an activator for both aids simultaneously. In addition, the controls on the right and left aids can be configured for different functionality, providing the patient with maximum flexibility using on-board controls.

Once the patient controls are configured, specific settings such as memory environments or signals for indicators, if applicable, can be adjusted. See Memory/Environments, Fine Tuning, Indicators, CROS/BiCROS, Tinnitus, and Fitting Summary for more information.

  1. Connect and select the desired hearing aid(s) to configure via Get Started.

  2. Click on the Read Device Settings or Load a Previous Session radio button and then click .

  3. Click User Controls.

Tip:  This screen can also be accessed via Fitting Summary by clicking details under User Controls.
  4. Inspire automatically defaults to a binaural Select Binaural view if applicable. To configure only the right or left wired hearing aid, click Select Right Only or Select Left Only.

Note:  If there are any differences between the two hearing aids' physical user controls (e.g., push button and digital rotary) which prevent the Volume Control Range and Step Size from being configured binaurally, each hearing aid must be configured separately.
  5. Click to expand the User Control Settings section if not currently expanded.

Note:  Only one section can be expanded at a time. Therefore, if VC Range and Step Size or VC Reserve Gain is currently expanded, when User Control Settings is expanded, VC Range and Step Size or VC Reserve Gain will automatically collapse.
  6. Configure user controls and ear to ear settings, if applicable, based on the user control type. Drag the user control to the desired ear side function, or check or uncheck the features to enable or disable.

Note:  Only one user control (e.g., Volume, Memory, etc.) can be assigned per ear side function (e.g., Short Press, Push & Hold, etc.). If configuring wired products binaurally, the user control is automatically assigned to both ear sides. Ear to Ear can be enabled/disabled per ear side, therefore, a user control can activate both aids simultaneously from only one ear side if desired. For Honor products, user controls function as an Ear to Ear command when the hearing aids are paired with a mobile device.

Tip:  To remove a user control from an assigned function, click or drag the user control back to the left. Removing a Volume Up, Volume Down, Tinnitus Level Up, Tinnitus Level Down, or Balance function (push button only) automatically removes the corresponding function. In addition, dragging a different user control to a previously assigned ear side function automatically replaces the existing function.

Tip:  To watch a video on how to configure the user controls, click Information and then click Show Demo.

        * If a user control (e.g., Volume, Memory, etc.) is assigned to an ear side function (Short Press or Push & Hold), both the top and bottom buttons are automatically assigned to the function. For example, if Volume is assigned to Short Press on the right ear side, the top button will increase the volume and the bottom button will decrease the volume.

** If the hearing aid contains an Analog Rotary + Push Button, Volume cannot be assigned to both the rotary and push button on the same ear side.

*** These options are only available if selected via General Preferences.

**** If the wired hearing aid contains an Analog Rotary and T² is available, these user controls cannot be enabled at the same time.

    Features

    Autophone Memories

Ear to Ear for Autophone Memories Denotes whether or not autophone memories will be changed binaurally in wireless products. This feature is only available if Autophone or Autocoil is selected for one of the memories and is checked automatically for one or both devices based on how it's configured via Memories. If the hearing aid contains a push button and memory user control is not assigned to an ear side function, this feature can be enabled or disabled. However, if one or both memory user control sides are assigned, this feature is checked automatically for the compatible ear side(s) configured via Memories and cannot be changed. Therefore, the state of this feature is based on the Ear to Ear setting for the compatible memory user control.

    T²****

T² Remote Control Indicates which ear side(s), if any, will accept telephone touch tones to control volume level, memory, tinnitus level, mute, and wake. This feature is available on most wired products. Click Information to view the touch tone instructions for the patient.
  7. Click Print in the right hand corner of the User Control Settings tab to print and/or preview the Device Guide if desired.

  8. Click to expand the VC Range and Step Size, VC Reserve Gain, or Tinnitus Output Range and Step Size section.

  9. Click on the desired step size button, if available.

Note:  These buttons are only available if Volume, Tinnitus, or T² Remote Control was enabled via the User Control Settings section, or the SurfLink Remote Control or SurfLink Mobile was enabled via Accessories. The options available for step size are 2 dB and 4 dB. If the hearing aid contains a digital rotary, only a 2 dB step size is available, and if the hearing aid contains an analog rotary, step size is not applicable. If fitting wireless products binaurally, the VC step size can only be set independently if both Ear to Ear Volume and all wireless remote control devices are disabled, or if no user controls are configured for volume (Honor products only). The tinnitus step size can only be set independently if Ear to Ear Tinnitus is disabled.
  10. Drag the slider bars Adjust gain all left or click on the tick mark to adjust the VC Range (attenuation and reserve gain) and/or Tinnitus Output Range, or click the up or down arrow keys to increase or decrease the VC Reserve Gain per ear side, if available.

Note:  In the VC Range, the thick, black tick mark represents the programmed use gain. In the Tinnitus Output Range, the thick, black tick mark represents the programmed level of the tinnitus stimulus. For Honor products, the VC range is fixed; therefore, the attenuation and reserve gain cannot be adjusted independently. Dragging a slider bar adjusts the range, which cannot exceed 20 dB between the reserve gain and attenuation. If fitting wireless products binaurally, the VC range can only be set independently if both Ear to Ear Volume and all wireless remote control devices are disabled, or if no user controls are configured for volume (Honor products only). The tinnitus reserve output can only be set independently if Ear to Ear Tinnitus is disabled. User volume control for touch tone phones (T²) can be adjusted via this screen.

Note:  The programmed response of the hearing aid may impact the default reserve gain value, but the amount of reserve gain can be adjusted. If the reserve gain is increased and a decrease in the frequency response in one or more channels or bands is required to accommodate the selected value, a message displays. Click Continue to increase the reserve gain and alter the frequency response of the hearing aid, or click Cancel to cancel increasing the reserve gain.

Tip:  Press the up or down arrow keys on the keyboard to adjust the VC Range, VC Reserve Gain, and/or Tinnitus Output Range.
  11. Click to expand the VC Self Learning section.

  12. Click the Automatic or Off radio button to enable or disable Self Learning.

Note:  Self Learning and Auto Experience Manager cannot be enabled at the same time. If configuring wireless products, the option selected for one ear side is automatically assigned to the opposite ear side because the setting must match between devices. If learning has been applied, an alert Alert displays.
