User Control Syncing

User Control Syncing configures patient controls for memory, volume control, mute, and Self Check (if applicable) based on whether or not the wireless hearing aid contains a physical switch and syncs binaural wireless hearing aids to communicate with each other. Based on the hearing aid's physical user control (e.g., switch, Sweep Technology, etc.) determines the configuration options available. In addition, when fitting binaurally, if the two hearing aids contain different user controls (e.g., push button and continuous digital VC), some options (e.g., memory) may only display for the applicable ear side. The hearing aids can be synced together and if a Best Fit is performed on both devices, all ear-to-ear features are automatically enabled. If an adjustment is made during a binaural fitting that results in the hearing aids configured to no longer support an enabled ear-to-ear feature (e.g., volume control), that feature will be disabled automatically.

Wireless communication allows the control on each hearing device to act as an activator for both aids simultaneously. In addition to the convenience of only having to make changes to one hearing aid, there is an added advantage that the right and left aids can each have the control configured for different functionality, extending the patient’s ability to adjust the devices with on-board controls.

Once the patient controls are configured, specific settings such as memory environments or step size and reserve gain for volume control, if applicable, can be adjusted. See Memory/Environments, Fine Tuning, Indicators, and Fitting Summary for more information.

  1. Connect and select the desired wireless hearing aid(s) to configure via Get Started.

  2. Click Quick Connect or Session Connect.

  3. Click Fitting from the Left Navigation Menu.

  4. Click Wireless.

  5. Click User Control Syncing.

Note:  This feature is not available for monaural fittings if the hearing aid has never been paired or when simulating one wireless hearing aid.
  6. Configure user controls based on the user control type.

    Field Name Description Details
    User Control Type
    Switch
Press and Release Memory Indicates which ear side(s), if any, will control the memory. Only one hearing aid can control the memory, volume control, or advanced VC - press and release, memory - press and release, therefore, if Memory is selected for an ear side and Press and Release Volume Control or Advanced VC - Press and Release, Memory - Press and Release was selected previously for the same ear side, it's automatically unchecked. Regardless if one or both sides are selected, the memory will not be adjusted binaurally.
Press and Release Volume Control Indicates which ear side(s), if any, will control the volume. Only one hearing aid can control the volume control, memory, or advanced VC - press and release, memory - press and release, therefore, if Volume Control is selected for an ear side and Press and Release Memory or Advanced VC - Press and Release, Memory - Press and Release was selected previously for the same ear side, it's automatically unchecked. If one or both sides are selected, the volume will be adjusted binaurally.
Advanced VC - Press and Release, Memory - Press and Hold Indicates which ear side(s), if any, will control both the volume and memory. Click the down arrow to expand the Advanced section. Only one hearing aid can control the advanced VC - press and release, memory - press and release, memory, or volume control, therefore, if Advanced VC - Press and Release, Memory - Press and Release is selected for an ear side and Press and Release Memory or Volume Control was selected previously for the same ear side, it's automatically unchecked. If one or both sides are selected, the volume will be adjusted binaurally.
    Push Button or Sweep Technology
Short Press Memory Indicates which ear side(s), if any, will control the memory. Only one hearing aid can control the memory or volume control, therefore, if Memory is selected for an ear side and Short Press Volume Control was selected previously for the same ear side, it's automatically unchecked. If one or both sides are selected, the memory will be adjusted binaurally.
Short Press Volume Control Indicates which ear side(s), if any, will control the volume and selects how the volume control will function. Only one hearing aid can control the volume control or memory, therefore, if Volume Control is selected for an ear side and Short Press Memory was selected previously for the same ear side, it's automatically unchecked. If fitting binaurally and the other hearing aid contains a continuous digital VC, this option is disabled. If Continuous Digital Volume Control is unchecked for the other hearing aid, this option is enabled. However, if Short Memory Volume Control is selected and Continuous Digital Volume Control is rechecked for the other hearing aid, this option is unchecked and disabled. The volume control options available are based on the hearing aid's firmware version and the options selected. The options are Sprinkler Decrease, Sprinkler Increase, Right Raise; Left Lower (push button only and short press volume control for both ear sides and ear-to-ear volume control must be selected), and Left Raise; Right Lower (push button only and short press volume control for both ear sides and ear-to-ear volume control must be selected). The default is Sprinkler Decrease. If one or both sides are selected, the volume will be adjusted binaurally.
Push and Hold (> 3 seconds) Indicates which ear side(s), if any, will mute the hearing aid without having to remove it from the ear or turn it OFF. If one or both sides are selected, mute will be applied binaurally. If mute is enabled, the hearing aid battery is still active while in this mode, therefore, battery life will be diminished.
Advanced Surface Control Sleep Indicates which ear side(s), if any, will require the hearing aid to be touched to awake from sleep. This feature prevents adjustments from occurring if the control surface is touched inadvertently. This user control only displays for hearing aids that contain a Sweep Technology volume control. Click the down arrow to expand the Advanced section. This option is only enabled if Short Press Memory or Volume Control is selected. Ear-to-ear configuration is not available for this feature.
    Continuous Digital VC
Volume Control Indicates which ear side(s), if any, will control the volume. If one or both sides are selected, the volume will be adjusted binaurally.
Open and Close Battery Compartment 3 Times
User-Initiated Self Check Indicates which ear side(s) will initiate the Self Check diagnostic. This feature is only available on products that support Self Check. If a hearing aid has no baseline, this option is disabled. Both sides must be selected to initiate the Self Check diagnostic binaurally.
  7. Configure ear-to-ear settings.

    Field Name Description Details
Memory Denotes whether or not the memory will be changed binaurally. This feature is only available if both hearing aids are multi-memory with more than one memory enabled and the number and location of the memories match between devices, and at least one of the paired hearing aids' physical switch has been configured to control the memory. However, if neither of the paired hearing aids' physical switch has been configured to control the memory but Automatic Telephone or Autocoil is selected for one of the memories for one or both devices, this option is checked automatically. If one or both memory user control sides are selected, this option is checked automatically.
Volume Control Denotes whether or not the volume control will be adjusted binaurally. If one or both user volume control sides are selected, this option is checked automatically.
Mute Denotes whether or not mute will be applied binaurally. This feature is only available if one hearing aid contains a push button or Sweep Technology. If one or both mute user control sides are selected, this option is checked automatically. If not selected, mute will not be applied binaurally regardless if one or both mute user control sides are selected.
Self Check Initiation Denotes whether or not the Self Check diagnostic will be initiated binaurally. This feature is only available if both hearing aids support Self Check, a baseline has been stored in each device, and User-Initiated Self Check has been selected for both aids. If User-Initiated Self Check is selected for both sides, this option is checked automatically. If only one side is selected, this option is disabled.
