SoundPoint

SoundPoint is a hearing aid fitting tool which enables a patient to participate in the fine tuning process by moving a pointer on your computer display or AppleĀ® iPadĀ® screen. When the patient moves the pointer to different areas of the screen, instantaneous changes to the frequency shaping, gain, and compression parameters of the hearing aid occur. SoundPoint can be used in both the initial and follow-up fittings, providing you with information that your patients often cannot easily articulate. By decreasing the occurrence of misinterpretation, SoundPoint can lead to a rewarding partnership between you and your patients.

  1. Activate SoundPoint by clicking on the SoundPoint icon in the QuickFit screen of your Inspire software.

  2. Position the patient in front of the loudspeaker.

  3. Adjust volume control until sound level meter reaches a comfortable average input level (green dot ~60dB).

  4. Click Start.

A specially prepared speech-in-noise stimulus is presented in a background of multi-talker babble at a level approximating that of average speech. The patient is greeted by a set of on screen directions inviting him/her to explore the SoundPoint environment. As the patient explores the SoundPoint screen, he/she hears sound quality changes which occur smoothly and in real-time. When the patient finds a point in the screen with a desirable sound quality, he/she chooses it as a favorite point by clicking (or tapping on the Apple iPad), which inserts a small pushpin icon. If the patient would like to reaccess the media player, choose new sound stimuli, or adjust the volume level of the sound stimuli, he/she should simply lock the session from any push pin on the screen. After several preferred points have been identified, the patient can easily compare settings and indicate an overall favorite via click or tap. The favorite setting is then programmed into the hearing aid when SoundPoint is closed.
