Self Learning

Self Learning is a feature which learns a patient's volume control preferences independently per active memory over time. The tracking and storage of volume preferences happen automatically and require no special training or effort by the patient. The hearing instruments learn patient preferences in real world environments, resulting in a more customized fitting. Self Learning is very easy to use and may reduce your fine tuning efforts during follow-up appointments. Self Learning is available in all wireless and select wired hearing devices.

Self Learning is a screen option under the Data Log menu on the left navigation bar in Inspire. The Self Learning screen may also be accessed by clicking on the Self Learning icon on the QuickFit screen. The green Attention graphic beside the Self Learning icon indicates that “Learning” has occurred. The green Attention graphic also appears on the Data Log Summary screen beside “User Volume.” If the patient does not make consistent volume control changes, “Learning” will not occur, and the Attention graphic will not appear.

The Self Learning feature can be set to Automatic or Off at the top left area of the Self Learning screen; it will be set to Off by default.

The hearing instrument must have a method of volume control in order to activate Self Learning. This volume control can be located on the instrument, a push button configured as a volume control, T2, a remote control, or ear to ear volume control functionality.

As the hearing instrument learns, changes to the programmed gain are applied only 2dB at a time, ensuring a true learning process. Learned changes can be removed and reapplied as many times as you choose during any follow-up fitting, until the session is saved. After each programming session, the self learning data is cleared from the hearing instrument, and the learning begins anew.
